Creativity is a drug I cannot live without. This anonymous statement is something that I have adopted as my own purpose for what I create and why art is an essential part of my being. Ever since the beginning of man and womans inhabitance on the earth, creativity has served as an imperative means of survival. From fire to shelter, primitive beings provided the evolutionary grounds of creativity for past and present generations. From the Venus of Willendorf to Michelangelo to Marcel Duchamp, art has metamorphosed into so much more than a means of survival; it has become a means of expression and a method and reflection of the times. A twenty-first century female with an abstract vision and a camera to record transient moments, ever-changing light spectrums and hues of significance, I am out to inspire new perspectives and respond to our modern times. Much of my abstraction stems from the human impact on the world and the variance between the organic earth and human constructs. Additionally, I often use the body as subject or object to represent human existence through certain experiences and angles. Sometimes my use of the body is inherently obvious and other times, the body is morphed far from reality; often a statement on the human disconnect of body to universe. Photography is my main artistic medium, but I also paint and perform in many of my photographs, creating further dimensions than what meets the eye. As a photographer, my use of texture and light to create abstraction is a common element in much of my work. I am not afraid to use bold colors, however black and white photography also serves as a strong means of expression in some of my photographs. With the burdensome need to create art as my own means of soul survival, I intend to continue to challenge the world around me and produce work that serves as an aesthetic means of questioning our modern era.
